Designing Your Dream Kitchen: Luxury Appliances

Imagine we’re sitting down together over coffee, flipping through kitchen inspo and dreaming up the most beautiful, functional space tailored just for you. Because when it comes to designing a truly luxurious kitchen, appliances are where beauty meets brains, elevating the way your kitchen looks and functions.

Today, I want to walk you through five of the most common decision points in kitchen appliances. I’ll share with you some beautiful appliance options I’ve been loving lately, from built-in refrigeration, showstopping ranges, ovens that practically cook for you, dishwashers so quiet you’ll forget they’re even there, to range hoods you’ll actually enjoy using. We’re not just talking about trends—we’re talking about smart choices that fit your lifestyle and make cooking (and even cleaning) feel a little more joyful.

Built-In Refrigeration: Beautifully Integrated and Seriously Smart

Let’s start with built-in refrigerators—these beauties are the unsung heroes of a luxury kitchen. They’re fully integrated, which means they sit flush with your cabinets and are concealed with cabinet panels, so they are hiding in plain sight. But they aren’t just beautiful… they pack some serious tech too.

Here’s the key point to know about refrigeration: when it comes to keeping your food fresher, for longer, precise temperature control is everything. Fluctuations in temperature can lead to wilting greens, soggy berries, and wasted leftovers. The best built-in systems use separate compressors for the fridge and freezer zones, which helps keep each compartment at a stable temp—and also prevents that funky “freezer smell” from creeping into your produce.

Another secret to great refrigeration is humidity control. That’s what keeps your herbs perky and your arugula from turning to mush. The luxe models we’re about to chat about totally get this balance right.

  • SKS 48” French Door: This gorgeous first-to-market 48″ French Door refrigerator by Signature Kitchen Suite is a multitasking dream. So much so, I designed my own kitchen to include it! With dual compressors and an all-metal interior, it holds temps like a pro. The top right freezer drawer is actually convertible — It switches between five modes, so whether you’re stashing extra wine, prepping for a dinner party or (let’s be honest) looking for easy access to nuggets and tater tots, it’s got your back. The top left drawer holds two icemakers – standard ice cubes for every day, and Craft Ice™ spheres that are perfect for cocktails or just making your sparkling water feel extra fancy.
  • Thermador Freedom Columns: Thermador offers solid performance with design flexibility in their Freedom columns. You can mix and match refrigerator and freezer columns – together or separately – to meet your specific refrigeration and layout needs. Their ThermaFresh system has humidity and temperature controls for each drawer, so your veggies stay crisp and your meats stay chilled just right. Plus, the Open Door Assist is perfect for hands free and integrated designs—just tap to open.
  • Miele Refrigerator & Freezer Columns: These are for the ultra-refined kitchen. Miele’s MasterCool system ensures even air distribution throughout the interior (no cold spots here), and the doors open with just a gentle push. Everything is soft-close, LED-lit, and incredibly quiet. A true luxury experience.
  • Monogram Columns with Leather-Wrapped Handles: If you’ve seen my KBIS posts, you know I absolutely love the way Richard Anuszkiewicz has partnered with Monogram to curate refined luxury. In addition to the beautiful exteriors, Monogram’s refrigerators feature smart performance (dual evaporators, temperature management, Sabbath mode, the works). The icing on the cake is the option to choose your handle finish—including hand-stitched leather wraps with gorgeous metal finishes like brass and charcoal. Yes, your fridge can wear couture too.
  • True Residential: Okay, these don’t fall into the panel-ready refrigeration category, but they’re definitely worth a mention for their bold style statement. These are commercial-style fridges brought into the home, with amazing temperature recovery (meaning they cool back down super fast after being opened) and customizable interiors. Plus, their color palette and configuration options are built for self-expression — you can go soft with a rose-gold champagne, moody with matte black or cheerful with saffron yellow, and mix and match fridge, freezer, beverage and wine columns under a single grille to make a bold statement.

Ok… coffee check. Need a refill? Take a stretch break here if you need to. Next up is ranges—and honestly, this is where the real cooking magic happens. Whether you’re team gas, team induction, or still on the fence, I’ve got you. We’re going to break down the pros, the perks, and the prettiest options out there. So grab your refill—we’re heading into the heart of the kitchen.

Ranges: Gas vs. Induction—What’s Right for Your Kitchen?

So let’s talk about ranges. This is one of the most exciting (and sometimes most confusing) decisions when designing a kitchen. Typically we picture the classic gas range, with commercial looking grates, powerful flames, and statement knobs. Then there’s induction, the newer tech-forward darling that’s fast, streamlined, and surprisingly powerful. So how do you choose? Well, like most great design decisions—it depends on how you live, cook, and want your kitchen to feel.

A wolf dual-fuel range with gold knobs

But first, a quick breakdown:

• Gas ranges give you that immediate, visual control over the heat. Love to cook on an integrated griddle? This is your jam. They’ve got that “pro-chef” vibe and work with any cookware. You can also opt for a dual-fuel range for the precision of an electric oven with the commercial feel of a powerful gas cooktop.

• Induction ranges heat up lightning fast and are incredibly precise. They boil water incredibly fast, especially when compared with their gas counterparts. They’re also safer (especially with kids or pets around) because the surface doesn’t get as hot, and they’re way easier to clean—no grates, no spills getting stuck. Bonus: they’re more energy-efficient and a bit better for the air quality in your kitchen.

Now let’s talk brands and beauties. I’m partial to my own 36″ Wolf duel-fuel range with a griddle (shown above), but I really want to take a look today at what’s new in induction:

  • BlueStar 48” Induction Range: This one is brand new and making waves. BlueStar, known for their pro-style gas ranges, has introduced a first-to-market 48” induction range —and it’s gorgeous. This 48” powerhouse gives you a huge cooktop, powerful zones (including an extra-large 7,400-watt burner!), and BlueStar’s signature customizable colors. Want a rich olive green range with brass trim? Yesssss. It’s available in more than 1000 colors! It’s as much a design moment as it is a cooking tool. I love that it has statement knobs, and my favorite smart feature they’ve added is the power indicator light – providing the same type of feedback as a flame does on a gas range.
  • SKS 36” Induction Range: SKS is like the tech-savvy younger sibling in the luxury appliance world. Their 36” induction range is all about precision—offering flex zones that adjust to the size of your pans and intuitive controls that make you feel like a pro even on a Monday night. Plus, it pairs beautifully with their other appliances for a seamless look.
  • Wolf 36” Duel-Fuel Range: Wolf brings the muscle with their Transitional Induction model. They’ve traded their conventional knobs for a streamlined, modern look that’s true to their technology, plus a convection oven that cooks evenly no matter what’s on the menu. And their induction cooktop delivers instant response, incredible temperature control, and durability to handle daily use with beauty and grace.
  • Monogram 36” Induction Cooktop: While technically a cooktop, it still deserves a shoutout here. Monogram’s design is clean, modern, and made for entertainers. You get five powerful induction elements, guided cooking features, and a finish that looks gorgeous whether you’re going minimal or maximal in your kitchen style. And their silver finish option plays nicely with lighter countertop colors, making it a favorite for me to specify when a client wants a cooktop rather than a range.

So…which one’s for you?

If you love the visual flair and tradition of cooking with a flame, gas might still win your heart. But if you’re looking for cleaner air, quicker boil times, and the ultimate in precision (especially if you’re big on simmering sauces or melting chocolate), induction is the way to go.

And good news? You don’t have to choose based on looks alone anymore. The new wave of induction ranges is absolutely stunning—and totally customizable. Beauty and brains working together to cook up something amazing.

Let’s dive into ovens next, because steam and combi ovens are seriously the quiet MVPs of a luxe kitchen. They’re kind of like having a private chef who’s also into holistic wellness—steaming your veggies to perfection, baking your sourdough just right, and making last night’s leftovers taste better than round one.

Ovens That Do It All: Why Steam and Combi Models Are the New Must-Haves

I was recently asked about oven trends in luxury kitchen design and had the honor of being quoted in Forbes about it last week! Multi-function ovens are quickly becoming the centerpiece of modern luxury kitchens, especially as more homeowners lean into wellness-driven design. It’s not just about cooking anymore—it’s about creating a kitchen that supports the way you live. We’re not just picking between single or double anymore. Now we’ve got combi steam, combi microwave, and convection steam ovens that can roast, bake, reheat, and sous vide—all in one versatile, multi-functional unit.

So let’s break down what makes these ovens such a game-changer—and which ones I’d recommend you consider for your own kitchen:

  • Miele Combi-Steam Ovens: Miele basically wrote the rulebook for high-end steam ovens. Their combi models let you cook with steam, convection, or a mix of both—and that’s where the magic happens. Want to bake a golden-crusted baguette with a soft interior? Done. Want to reheat a plate of pasta so it tastes like it just came off the stove? Steam’s your best friend. Plus, Miele makes sous vide a breeze with exact temps and humidity control that’s wildly precise. It’s gentle, flavorful, and kind of genius.
  • Wolf Convection Steam Oven: Wolf’s steam oven is a powerhouse with a clean-lined, professional look. I love that you can use it as your everyday oven for just about anything from baked goods to prime rib. Their intuitive interface walks you through every setting (great if you’re new to steam cooking), and the oven automatically adjusts moisture and heat. Also: steam + convection = the crispiest roast potatoes ever. You don’t need dedicated plumbing for this unit; there is a refillable water compartment that uses plain tap water and lasts a surprisingly long time between refills.
  • SKS Combi Wall Oven: Signature Kitchen Suite’s combi oven includes steam, convection, AND microwave features—so you’ve got one amazing unit that does triple duty. Loaded with built in gourmet modes, it will determine the best combination of cooking modes to deliver the best results and optimize cooking time. Perfect if you’re trying to maximize performance without crowding your kitchen with multiple appliances. I love that their microwave can function as a second (or third!) oven in a compact kitchen, and that the single oven below uses steam assist for multiple baking modes.

Now, let’s talk about the why behind steam:

• Better Reheating: Steam gently revives leftovers without drying them out. Seriously, day-old pizza tastes freshly baked.

• Healthier Cooking: You retain more nutrients and flavor without needing oil or butter (unless you want it, in which case—drizzle away).

• Next-Level Baking: Steam gives your breads a perfect rise and crust, and cakes come out moist and evenly baked.

• Sous Vide Without the Fuss: Precision is everything with sous vide, and steam ovens can hold exact temperatures better than most traditional methods.

Dishwashers: The Unsung Heroes of a the Kitchen Clean-up Zone

Dishwashers don’t always get the same attention as ranges or refrigerators, but they totally should—especially when you’re designing a kitchen that blends performance and beauty. The right one works hard behind the scenes, cleans like a dream, and looks like it was made just for your space. Whether you go fully panel-ready for that built-in elegance or opt for sleek stainless, today’s best dishwashers are all about quiet luxury—literally and figuratively.

One common question I hear is whether cabinet panels will hold up on a dishwasher given the amount of steam and moisture they receive. The truth is, your sink cabinetry will typically get splashed a lot more than your dishwasher panel will. It’s always a good practice to wipe down the sink cabinetry front when you finish cleaning up. As for steam, today’s well-made dishwashers have moisture-sealing gaskets that keep the steam inside the dishwasher, not on the panel. A reputable cabinet manufacturer will warranty their dishwasher panels just as well as the rest of the kitchen.

  • Bosch Panel-Ready Models: Bosch kind of sets the gold standard when it comes to quiet dishwashing. Their panel-ready models blend in beautifully with your cabinetry and offer seriously powerful cleaning without a peep. We’re talking 40 decibels or less—basically whisper-quiet. I love them for their precision, flexibility (adjustable racks can accommodate just about anything you need to wash!), and that signature CrystalDry feature that gets even plastics completely dry. My favorite new feature is the indicator light that displays on the floor with the time remaining in the cycle. When your dishwasher is this quiet, the indicator helps you avoid opening the dishwasher mid-wash.
  • Miele Fully Integrated Dishwashers: Miele is luxury through and through. Their dishwashers feel like a thoughtful extension of the kitchen, especially when you go for their fully integrated, handle-less design. Inside, it’s all about smart organization: adjustable racks, dedicated cutlery trays, and an auto-dosing system that knows exactly how much detergent to use. These dishwashers are intuitive, ultra-quiet, and built like little German-engineered tanks (the elegant kind).
  • Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer™: Now for something a little different—and honestly, genius. DishDrawers are perfect if you want a more ergonomic, modular setup. You can install two drawers stacked OR side by side, and only run one when needed (great for singles or small households). Plus, no more bending down to unload. It’s such a thoughtful option, especially for open-concept kitchens where form and function really have to work hand-in-hand.

And here’s a fun fact that might surprise you: Most newer high-performance dishwashers are actually designed to handle dirty dishes. Yep, you read that right. No need to pre-rinse—just scrape off big bits and load them in. These machines use smart sensors to detect food particles, and if your dishes are too clean, they can actually go into overdrive and scrub too hard, which could actually cause excess wear and tear on your dishes. Let them do what they do best—and enjoy one less thing on your prep list.

So what’s the right style for your kitchen?

• Go panel-ready if you’re all about a clean, streamlined look—especially in modern, transitional, or minimalist spaces. These disappear behind your cabinetry and create that seamless look.

• Stick with stainless steel if you love a bit of contrast or want your appliances to shine (literally) as part of your overall design.

Either way, performance-wise, you’re not sacrificing a thing. These luxury dishwashers are designed to handle heavy loads quietly, efficiently, and with a little style on the side.

Now we’re ready to wrap up strong with one of my favorite under-the-radar style upgrades: range hoods —the unsung heroes of air quality! And I promise, this isn’t your builder-grade boxy hood moment. We’re talking quiet, design-forward options that make the air cleaner and your kitchen cooler (literally and aesthetically).

Ventilation: Quiet Power, Bold Style

Range hoods used to be the necessary evil of the kitchen—a big clunky thing you hid or tolerated. Not anymore. Today’s luxury ventilation options are all about blending high performance with thoughtful design. Think sculptural island hoods, ceiling vents, and even pendant lights that double as ventilation. Yes, seriously.

Good ventilation matters more than most people think—especially if you cook often or love your garlic (as do I!). It keeps grease, smoke, and food smells from lingering, removes harmful fumes from gas cooking, protects your cabinetry, and creates a more breathable, comfortable space overall.

Because the worst vent hood you can buy is the one you won’t use, I strongly recommend investing in a hood you know you’ll use consistently. Here are some standout options to consider:

  • Vent-A-Hood Magic Lung: Hands down, my favorite hood. This system by Vent-a-Hood uses centrifugal force (like a mini tornado inside your hood) to suck out grease, smoke, and odors—no filters required. It’s super quiet, easy to clean, and performs like a dream. It’s my go-to for neurodivergent households (like mine) where noise needs to be minimized without sacrificing performance.
  • Miele and Sub-Zero High Performance Hoods: These two brands deliver beautiful, well-built options that blend into the background or stand out—your choice. With quiet motors, sleek stainless designs, and precision airflow, they do their job without stealing the spotlight (unless you want them to).
  • Falmec’s New Innovations: If you’re designing a modern or minimalist kitchen and really want to avoid the standard overhead hood, Falmec is doing some next-level things. They’re introducing ventilation built into pendant lights and integrated into island features that look more like decor than ductwork. They also have a unique line of ceiling vents that allow for a completely open overhead space. It’s ideal for open-concept kitchens where you want the space to feel fluid and uninterrupted.

So, how do you choose?

• If you love a showstopper, go with a statement hood in a bold shape or material. This can anchor your kitchen design like a piece of functional art.

• If you’re going minimal or modern, look for integrated options—ceiling mounts, under-cabinet installs, or island pendants that blend into the space.

• And for those who value quiet performance above all, a system like Vent-A-Hood’s Magic Lung is going to give you the power without the roar.

Final Thoughts

Designing a kitchen that works for you and wows your guests is all about balance—beauty and brains, function and flair. And with this new generation of luxury appliances, you really don’t have to compromise. From built-in fridges that preserve every ingredient perfectly to statement ranges, intuitive ovens, and dishwashers that handle the dirty work (literally), every detail adds up to a space that feels tailored to you.

So whether you’re planning a full kitchen reno or just dreaming up ideas for down the line, I hope this gave you some inspiration and clarity. And as always—if you need help narrowing it down, I’m just a coffee away.
